Supplement Plans or Advantage Plans

Your biggest decision when going onto Medicare is choosing between "Original Medicare" and "Medicare Advantage." Original Medicare includes purchasing a Medicare Supplement Plan and Prescription Drug Plan while Advantage Plans package all of your health insurance into one plan.

Full-Service

Original Medicare

Part A: Hospital Insurance (Government Provided)

Part B: Medical Insurance (Government Provided)

Medicare Supplement Plan (Purchase from Insurance Company)

Part D: Prescription Drug Plans (Purchase from Insurance Company)

Medicare Advantage

Combines Medicare Parts A, B, and usually D into one packaged plan.

You purchase these plans from an insurance company who administers all of your health insurance coverage.

Although you no longer receive benefits from original Medicare, you still must pay the Medicare Part B premium.
